Hey Everyone,

I'm building a cheap mini-itx rig based on the i3-2100 and the Asus P8H61-I.

I'm not interested in overclocking at all and am planning to buy 1333mhz ram (maximum speed supported). Here are my questions.

1. If I buy a 1333 set will the system default to the stock/advertised timings of the 1333 ram? Will I have to set timings anyway? I can if I need to I just want to pop it in and have it run at the advertised stock settings. Surely I won't have to fool with xmp profiles?

2. How important is the motherboard manufacturers "approved memory list." Is it strongly recommended to use memory on that list? On the opposite side, how accurate are the memory manufacturers memory selectors?

3. Recommended ram for this board? It will be used for gaming, general use, I've had good luck with corsair (a long time ago) and Kingston.

"The default DIMM frequency depends on its Serial Presence Detect (SPD), which is the standard way of accessing information from a memory module", Asus said. So it depends on which memory Kit you will get.

As your mobo has 2 x DIMM with Max. 16GB. then you have to decide which kit to get. For gaming 8GB Ram should be more than enough. So you can get either 2 x 4, or just one stick with 8GB.

As you want 1333Mhz, then get a low latency kit like OCZ OCZ3P1333LV4GK 4GB(2 x 2GB) 7-7-7-20 1.65V
