Hi, I recently built a new computer, but I still have not added a proper graphics card. Since I just bought a nice monitor http://, I thought that it would be adequate to pair it with a real graphics card.

I intend to play only at 1080p, but since the monitor goes up to 144Hz, I'd love to get as many FPS from the card as possible. I really do not plan on using the 3D features.

My current configuration is i5 4670K, gigabyte z87x-ud5h, 8 gb at 1600 DDR3 1600, 512 gb 840 EVO and a 850W Rosewill Extreme PSU, everything inside a Rosewill Thor V2.

My preference is for a card between $220 and $260, that will be fast enough to play at 1080p with high settings, but as cool and quiet as possible. I will not OC. So according to my limited research, my best bet are either R9 270X or GTX 760. But given the wide range of brands and approaches, I find it very difficult to settle on any given card. I do not really care about bundled games. They are a bonus, but my focus is on getting the lowest temperatures and noise.

I would appreciate a variety of suggestions, since I live in Canada and sometimes the availability is not on par, so having a few options would be a big help.

Thanks!

Honestly if you are looking for Cool & quiet you cannot get a better performance the the MSI TF series

Like I linked before http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127745&Tpk=14-127-745

With MSI Afterburner you cannot go wrong.

The 270x does run slightly hotter than the 760, but noise will depend on the cooler, not really about the card in a lot of cases.

In terms of performance, right now, across the board, the 760 is slightly faster (5% ish). This could change, and is likely to, after mantle drops, as even the smallest performance gain will put the 270x ahead in mantle supported games. The 270x is cheaper, another point to consider

msi gaming is a great cooler for both cards
Asus direct cuii is a GREAT!!!! cooler for both cards
other than that, it's really more about personal looks preference than anything else, and since these cards are so similar, mantle actually does become a selling point (i usually advise against mantle as a selling point due to the true lack of information on it so far)

The R9 270X is a good card and will get you far, but there have been a select number of complaints about the heat of the card, one of them getting into the 100s (C), I thought that this was an error with the fan but it does get a bit toasty making the fan work harder, therefore making it a bit louder. The GTX 760 would be a better choice in my opinion as the coolers that come with them are pretty good stock, although they vary depending on the brand (ASUS, Sapphire etc..)

The GTX 760 would get slightly better results, not only in cooling and noise suppression, but gaming as well. Although these results are theoretical they should still technically be true as they are determined on the actual specs given by the companies. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-270X-vs-GeForce-GTX-760

Hope this helps you choose a good GPU based on what you want personally.

The temps on the 270x are fine if you get a good enough cooler, and anything above 90 degrees on this card is considered not a fault of the chip itself, but rather an external fault such as poor heatsink installation, poor airflow or shit thermal paste. even with the stock cooler, the 270x will max itself out at roughly 90 degrees. other coolers allow for adequate cooling and heat no longer becomes an issue if you have adequate airflow in your case.

Wow! Thanks a lot everybody for your help. It seems that right now, 760 is a bit faster, cooler and quieter than 270X. But the faster bit could change bit mantle. In that case, I would go for 760, since it seems that it already has enough power for my 1080p needs, and while remain cooler and quieter.

So, once that is kind of settled, any other advice on a cool and quiet 760 other and the asus and msi?
