Quiet cooling for 4790s.

Hello, recently I've got used i7-4790s and now I need to find a good quiet cooler.
What do you guys recommend? Would something like DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 400 be an overkill?

If you are looking for a quiet cooler then it won't be overkill. Keeping it around 60% fan speed will allow quiet operation while cooling your CPU.

Agreed. Any $30 cooler is going to do pretty well. Plenty of alternatives from BeQuiet, Cryorig, ThermalTake, Scythe, if you don't quite like the look of the deepcool.

I happen to have used on one a i7-4790 in place of a stock Dell cooler, it worked rather well, though the stock cooler was adequate as well. Definite noise improvement.

That's interesting. I thought that you should match a cooler with your CPU's TDP. Which is 65W in my case.
So instead I should aim much higher and get something with a big heat sink to ensure low RPM. Am I getting it right?

Yep, you got that right.
If you didn't care that about noise then you could just take TDP in consideration.
