Need some advice:
My GPU is running at PCIe 3.0 8x instead of 16x.

Tested and benchmarked with Unigine, CPU-Z, GPU-Z.

Note: I am not running it with multiple GPUs. And I have installed it in the 16x slot on my motherboard.
My mobo supports PCIe 16x, so does my GPU and CPU.

My specs: Board: GIGABYTE B85 D3H
GPU: Sapphire R7 250 2GB DDR5
CPU: Pentium Dual Core 3.00 (Haswell)

Also, is there any viable difference between 8x and 16x?

Thanx in advance.. :)

Thanx for the reply brother. But I did install it in PCIe 3.0 lane. Just curious....

try another [older] version of gpuz .. like say your using gpuz 8.0 try gpuz 7.3 and see if it changes the readings I had one of the gpuz and cpuz not do so well and gave me crazy readings ?

one cpuz showed my cpu cores running way off the wall

''Think the cards specced at pci-express 2 at 16x , so running on pci-express 3 at 8x would be normal''

seems to be said here as well
http://forums.evga.com/PCIe-16x-vs-8X-Slot-SLI-m2022970.aspx

also try another driver for your card as well maybe a bug in the one your using ??

PCI express 3 has twice the theoretical bandwidth of PCI express 2.

The r7 250 is a PCI express 2 16x or PCI express 3 8x card - those 2 options give exactly the same bandwidth.

If you board only had a PCI express 2x16 slot it would register at at 16x.

Irregardless PCI express 2 8x would saturate a 250's bandwidth so it honestly doesn't matter.

Thanx brother.
Well I did all of the things u mentioned, as I have been running this card for a couple years. So I had tried the CPU/GPU Z's , tested all drivers i.e: catalyst 13.xx, 15.xx 16.xx.
But the reading has been same from the beginning at 8x. 🙁

Well i guessed the performance difference is UNNOTICEABLE, but lately i have been facing "TEXTURE LOADING" issues in GTA V , after I finally upgraded to windows 8.1. Didn't happen in windows 7 though. So I was just curious, is this an issues with the PCIe lanes.
Anyways' thanx for the support brother! :)

well try the card in another computer and see if the same if so maybe the card at fault if reads true then maybe in your motherboard ??

I use a older AMD card and it reads all true not x8 in a pcie 3.0x16 slot [hd7850/ 6850] so to me something s up with yours in some way mine both show at load full x16 in there pcie 3.0 slots ???

Yep that's my next step...

Thanx

First one is a r7 250, second one is a r7 265 (7850)

The 250 supports PCI express 2x 16 or PCI express 3x8 , the 265 supports PCI express 3x16 .

As I've said a 250 couldn't even saturate the bandwidth at PCI express 2 x8 so texture issues are nothing to do with this.

ya, that's a limitation of that series of card your stuck at 8x [250] so with that you seem to be in good shape overall on them readings

''The Radeon R7 250 uses the PCI Express 3.0 interface, while its main competitor uses the PCI Express 2.0 interface. Although the chip supports PCI Express 3.0 x16, the video card we tested offers only half of the supported lanes and, therefore, it is a PCI Express 3.0 x8 card.''

I know I know, but i'm kind of "DISAPPROVING" of new OS's. Sill an XP fanboy. Win 7 was a huge leap for me, so is 8.1.
but the main reason is I believe Win 10 is still in BETA or TEST stage. It has a LOT of bug and glitches as I have heard.

Still thinking about it though!
Thanx

''Get upgraded to win 10 while its still free''

wow I thought you tried to give good advice win -10 is for suckers those who know know to avoid and why Microsoft has to resort to there sneaky strong arm tactics to fool folks in to it ..lol.... best answer lol......

win-10 what a joke of a OS [if you could call it that ] [opinion]

Hey brother I hit on the BEST ANSWER accidentally. didn't mean to do that. I mean it doesn't even remotely solve the issue. It was a mistake. Can't revert the move.

^ well you have till July then you'll be paying for it.
Come the end of the year the majority of new aaa games are going to be dx12 & win 10 will be a necessity then.

Win 7 is completely dead , 8.1 has memory leaks & has never been that good.
Win 10, rock solid stable, minimal ram & background usage - far far better plain as.

My old win 7 install was pushing 30gb total , win 8.1 was around 19gb.
Win 10 takes less than 8gb- if you're running an ssd that difference is substantial.

''Win 7 is completely dead '' mine is working alive and well with out issue ?? unlike 10

why do most who ''upgrade'' [lol] to 10 want to get there 7 back quick ?? and then see Microsoft did not make it easy to do ?

10's a joke and all about Microsoft, not you . like I said its so good Microsoft got to stromg arm / trick / lie/ fool / what ever it takes to trap you in to it then screw folks that try to go back to there old ''stable'' working OS's

windows 10 makes vista look like a superior OS's and vista was received way better then 10 is

then how sad its now that Microsoft con hardware vendor to except 10 and drop support for the rest like look at how skylake is see how you get trapped ya, you can get 7 to work with some work but they done said 10 or nothing soon

its about you now support them at your cost not them supporting you and your needs anymore they pick and choose what you will do on there stuff or what stuff your allowed to use its the most proprietary systems you ever built today . if under windows atmosphere - they looking to control your hardware choices just like Microsoft controls games with there sloppy direct x [hide and watch]

[example.. also has on the avoid 10 just below as well ]
http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-updates-support-policy-new-cpus-will-require-windows-10/

notice on the last pargraph of the 2ed 10 story how the term ''tricked'' is used ..lol....

anyway good luck

Okkay everybody. I guess either I have a bad card or a bad mobo. But it's not really bothering me . The curiosity faded away.
Thanx everybody for your suggestions.
BTW: This was my first post on Tom's Hardware.
Thanx
