R7 260X vs R9 270

Admirable
Hi. I will be building a PC soon, but I have two options to how I take it up. I could either use my current (1GB!) R7 260X and build the PC around it, using better quality parts, or I could use £100 of my budget on an R9 270 and use lower quality parts to keep the budget. Budget is £400.

It's between a Pentium G3258 and a R9 270, versus an FX-6300, a better case, a better PSU, a better motherboard and a good CPU cooler plus my old, weaker R7 260X.

Which one should I go for?

Well
If you use the PC for gaming with heavy game. The Pentium is pretty bad, because its only have 2 core and today's game need 4 core. I didn't recommended FX too because AM3 is dead socket they won't make any FX anymore so FX is not future proof. Maybe you need to tight your budget on case and mobo for better CPU and r9 270 is good enough

There is a significant difference between the cards, however, given that you already have a 260X, it's not worth spending the money over again.

Either get a FX-6300, or if you can an i3, in which case you could upgrade to a newer video card down the track when you're not happy with the performance any more.

Only reason to get a G3258 is if you want and i5 or i7 but can't afford it yet... the Pentium can then act as a stop-gap until you can afford the one you want.

Okay so first the R9 270 is alot better than the R7 260, without a doubt... Go for that!!

The thing is that the FX 6300 is a better cpu overall and in the end you will have better gaming with it... But I myself would rather recommend a entry lvl i5 before that but in this case I would say go for the R9 270 and the FX 6300... It`s the best combo even if it`s going to cost you a little bit more...

But he already owns the 260X. If he can sell it for a good price then I agree with you, but if not, with such a tight budget, you don't want to be wasting the 260X. I'd rather live with it for now, use the additional funds to invest in a better core system which will last longer, and then upgrade the card down the track when the budget allows.

Well I will be upgrading the GPU in the future, will probably get an R9 380X when they come out. Here is the exact build as of now: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/Woody1999/saved/BVk8TW

I've done my research and I've been told that the GA-970A-UD3P along with a good cooler is probably the best overclocking solution for the FX-6300 outside of the hundreds of pounds high end 990FXA boards. Also, the case is white (what I want) and has better sound dampening. The PSU is MUCH higher quality, modular, and a helluva lot quieter.

I would like my build to be relatively good for gaming, be as quiet as possible for the price and also last a long long time.

I would prefer to spend money on the extra better things, but I just wanted your advice before I go and mess up my next PC.

So keeping the card is a good idea? Thanks!

One more question even if it's kind if off topic. What sort of overclock do you think I should be able to get with that board and that cooler? Not that I need it with such an...average graphics card but it would be nice in the future.

Yes.

You have a good i3 for a fine price - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i34360
You can go cheap on everything else(keep your psu), you don't need to buy an aftermarket cooler for it, and in many games it would still be faster than overclocked FX-6300, and stock performance >>> potential performance, eventually amd will cost you more, and it's just not worth it, and btw, chances are, 380X would be bottlenecked by it.

I just doubt you want to end up with another "Q8300"...

No, I've been through this a lot of times with people over at the processor sub-forum. The FX-6300 will be my best bet until the far future at which point I will be out of University, hopefully earning money and saving up for the best parts I can buy at the time. Also, I highly, highly doubt that the FX-6300 is as bad as a Q8300, I've seen how well the thing performs and even with my current graphics card, I will get a MASSIVE performance increase over my current PC.
