Question R80 Choke replacement?

right so i bought a gigabyte x58 ud5 motherboard and as soon as i unpacked it i noticed that 3 of the 12 R80 chokes have some sort of discoloration, slicht dark spots on them that i cant rub off. because of this im scared to overclock my cpu because ive been told that the "R" chokes do something with voltage and i dont want to loose my whole system to something going terribly wrong, i do have a multi meter but have no idea how to use it and except for looks the pc performs fine at stock and i never get BSOD's or crashes

It's most likely nothing, btw, and just a discoloration from manufacturing processing. A choke works kind of like an electromagnet made with a coil of electrical wire. The part you see is a ferrite that alters the magnetic field to make it stronger, the wire itself is inside the ferrite. If it's discolored a bit it doesn't mean anything about performance. I'd be way more concerned if it was cracked.

alright, i managed to make some pictures but after what you said i feel like nothing should be wrong. i have a really crap camera but hope it is clear that some chokes have slight discoloration

A very slight discoloration is all i see (and that's a maybe). You could probably rub it off with a finger...certainly nothing I'd be worried about.
