R8500 rules in UT2K3!

Don't get your hopes too high. The demo notes also mention that the OpenGL renderer is a work in progress and that development emphasis will be on the D3D renderer but post your results anyway.

Ok AMD_Man I want you to run UT2K3, go into an Antalus level, open console, type STAT FPS and start playing. After a minute or so, tell me the average FPS and the current FPS that you seem in your eyes to beleive is average or often in.

Also I would like other people to try this way out, to be sure I am not having crappy performance by nature, or is it drivers.

Hmm, usually, it's in the 50s or 60s. Sometimes it dips into the 40s and I believe it's went as low as 30s in scenes with a few bots all firing at the same time. Scenes where there is no firing at all visible, I get 70s. If I look at a wall, I get ~120FPS. If I stare at the sky, I get 80FPS. I get about 70FPS starring at the ground. Overall, I'd say I get 50 something FPS. The average FPS displayed is in fact not the average since you started the game, but the average of the last couple of seconds. That said, I'd said that it's completely playable and smooth 99% of the time. You don't need over 60FPS to experience smooth action in this game.

NOTE: I had maximum (16X) Aniso set when I took these "tests".

Don't know what could be the problem.

Just what are the advantages of the Quadro cards over the regular nVidia cards?

Heheh, with Aniso of course, how obvious of you!

Indeed Nvidia screwed something in the 40.41 drivers, they need to tweak and release a performance patch for UT2003 at least soon!

the 4200 is right there with it at stock speeds. I have the same 2.26 (non-oced) as AMD_Man, but I have the 4200ti(non-oced). The benchmarks were almost an exact mirror of his. botmatch was about 4 fps higher, and the other was just 1.

This was my first UT experience. Seems pretty cool. I'm so used to the feel of the quake games though, so it's gonna take some getting used to. It seems a little more stiff at first. Gotta warm into it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See, so overall, his Ti4200 is only 4% faster.

No, you cannot compare benchmarks from 2 totally different systems and make any kind of claims, mobo, bios settings windows configs, to even suggest doing so as valid is retarded frankly.

 Heatsinks, if you dont overclock, use the STOCK!

What was the mod u were trying to do?

Active ramsinks on the ram, p1 heatsinks with fans, it was [-peep-] awesome till the capacitance caused glitching, so when trying to remove the heatsinks the ram broke off.

 Heatsinks, if you dont overclock, use the STOCK!

Software optimizations, OGL optimized, more stability w/ pro apps
Doesn't sound like it should slow things down, not seriously so. Are you sure you don't have a different level off AA or AF enabled under OpenGL?

Oh well, the OpenGL renderer is a work in progress.

Eden, UT2K3 relies heavily on the CPU, just like UT. I was hoping they would make it 50/50, like Quake, but they didn't. That's one of the things that pisses me off about the UT engine. AMD_Man is getting better results because he has a 2.2 P4. If you had a 2.2P4, you would be getting results that are equal to his 8500, maybe even better. Eden, please don't tell me you're running the 40.41 drivers. Just so everyone knows, those are beta drivers. I would recommend that you go back down to 30.82's, since they're final versions. When the detonator 5's come out (the first final version of the 40.xx drivers) then you get them. Also, the final will have support for Win98, so that's good news for me (and everyone else who uses 98). They should be out soon (before the NV30 comes out).

AMD_Man, don't get too excited. Mind_Crime might have a different mobo with better/worse performance, and he might have DDR RAM, instead of RDRAM. That can make quite a difference. Also, do both you and Mind_crime have 2.2A's, or B's? Ordinarily, 8500 doesn't score as high as 4200. I'll definitely have to agree with Mat on this one.

You're right, those drivers have been rumored to cripple performance. I don't know how to shift to old drivers, but I prefer to stick with those until the new ones, so not to get any registry leftovers.
