I researched both the 770 and the 280x extensively before my decision to go with 2 280x's. (originally had 2x 570's, and then 2x 660 ti's.) I too am hoping to find 280x crossfire benchmarks. Based on my research, the 770 and the 280x should perform to almost the same level depending on the game, as some games suit different cards better. I chose the 280x over the 770 because of the extra vram and $100 less per card, and I chose the Asus DCUii top 280x over the 7970 because the cooler is a double slot, allowing for crossfire capability in just about any midtower, whereas all the asus 7970's were 2.5 slots.
My cards are scheduled to arrive monday, once installed I will try to remember to post back here my findings on BF3, and later BF4. It is my plan to review the 280x extensively in BF4 so I might be able to advise people going forward. Either way both cards will be great depending on the games you wish to play.
I have ALWAYS been an nVidia fanboy, and I am really looking forward to working with these two radeons. I'm sure this comment didn't help one bit!
I am in sales, and when a client of mine faces a tough decision, I always say that a wrong choice really can't be made, through research and perhaps a little trial and error, the right solution will present itself to you.
My vote = R9 280X crossfire, hopefully FTW!
