So I was wanting to upgrade my computer but am trying to figure out the best way of doing it.

I currently have

AMD FX-8350
Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X 4gb
Asrock 970 Extreme 4 mobo
16 gb GSkill Ripjaws DDR3
250gb Samsung EVO SSD
1 TB WD Blue HDD

I want more processing power and better GPU performance. I am thinking about getting an Intel i7 5820k or 5930k (and getting the component upgrades to match i.e. DDR4, mobo, etc.) but I'm stuck when it comes to GPUs. Do I want to add in another 290 and leave it at that or go with a 980ti? The 980ti would be my first choice if money were no object but if I can get similar or better performance with a 290 Xfire setup then hey, I'm already halfway there. I want to record/stream with 1080p+ resolutions at 60fps+. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I bet you will see huge performance increase in the 980 ti even if you have 2x 290 on crossfire. There is a HUGE difference between AMD and NVIDIA on these 2 cards.About your CPU i would go with the 5930k if i didn't care about money or wait for the new skylake models arriving early on 2016.Don't think that if you buy the 5820k there will be any vast difference between it and the 5930k. They are both great cpus,it's just that 5930k is a little better in terms of stock clock speed and the 5930k will get better speeds on overclocking. But the 5930k is also more expensive if your budget is limited and want to consider money first before upgrading.I hope i have helped you enough!

If you do go crossfire I would recommend at least a 1000 watt PSU that will allow you to overclock. For the CPU you could go with a 5820k, It would allow you to game and stream very well.

2 290s in crossfire would be about equal to a 980ti, a bit better in many games.

As far as just gaming goes you will see a bit better performance from a 6700k, but for streaming and gaming go with the 5820k.

Oh and as Rhezner mentioned you will have to upgrade your PSU to a better one if you upgrade the CPU and the GPU since 2 GPUs will require more power than a single one.

I really like the 980ti... A lot. And if I got one of those, as the years go on I could always add in another. The 980ti currently and thinking about the hardware in a few years is definitely the more "future-proof" option but also is the more expensive option. I want to upgrade my processor first to help out with recording/streaming and then upgrade the GPU sometime later. Thanks!

To be honest save the money and go for the i7 6700k instead and always try to go for a single gpu solution as a) less power b) less heat c) compatible with all games.
With 2x290s you would need 1000W psu and expect one of the cards fans to be running at 100% all the time.

What would be the benefit of the 6700k? Like I said, I might can get the 5820 or 5930 for pretty cheap.

The mobos tend to be cheaper as you are not looking at getting 3 or 4x sli/crossfire support, and they tend to now have better usb c support as the X99 series came out just before the swap to usb c happened.
