So I decided that I wanted to try a little bit of ethereum mining with my R9 380 4GB (yes I know I'm losing money doing this). Left it on overnight, and the next day turned my monitor on, and there was no input from my GPU. So I reseated all my PC's cables, tried individual RAM sticks, swapped my GPU's PCI slot, but nothing's working. I tried uninstalling the drivers then restarting, but then i just got an error about windows not being able to start, so I can only use my CPU's onboard graphics at the moment. At this point I'm starting to worry that few hours of mining killed my GPU. It did show in device manager, until I uninstalled it, and its lights are on, but its fans aren't spinning.

GPU: MSI R9 380 4GB
CPU: Intel i5-6400
RAM: 2x4GB, 2x8GB
PSU: EVGA 650 GQ
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-H170-D3H

Putting a load on the GPU causes it to heat up. In theory, the heatsink and fan keep temperatures under control. In reality, you need to keep an eye on it to make sure it is under control.

For instance, it'd be a good idea to run your mining software for a short time while you monitor temperatures. If after a reasonable length of time you see temps never get too high, then you can go forward.
