Can you be more specific about what your disappointment was, please?

I'm currently trying to decide whether to upgrade from HIS 5870 to gtx 570 and reading benchmarks and forums galore. Unfortunately, most people end up arguing rather than stating their own experience, which is what I'm interested in. I'm particularly interested to hear from anyone who went from an oc 5870 to a gtx 570 (oc or not), and how they compared.

Thanks.

for anyone looking for an upgrade to hd 6900 series or gtx 500 series both is a good choice depending on your needs and use for it... for those who keep constantly upgrading their hardwares but still limited themshelves to one monitor while gaming shouldn't bother whether hd 6970 has more memory than gtx 570 or not.. because amd and nvidia will keep producing new cards and technologies... and game makers will utilise any latest gears and techs into their games so even hd 6970 has 2gb memory doesn't mean that it will be enough for future games...
the thing about future proof means nothing anymore in this fast moving world...
looks at when crysis 1 was released 3 years ago... people complain that no hardware able to runs the game smoothly at high resolution... until 2010... when you had the hardware that can bring crysis 1 down.. metro 2033 comes out... there will always be a game that will challenge current tech to its limits...

my suggestion is... buy a video card which you think had better general performance in most games and doesn't have too much irritating issue like driver support... for me.. gpu power is much more important than having bigger memory...

Hey you probably already know this but several of the 570 and 6970 reviews include the 5870 as a comparison (though it is not overclocked). It might give you some insight to check those reviews if you have not already. The 5870 appears to hold up pretty well to the 570 and even beats it in a couple of games. For the record I own the 5850 not the 5870 and I don't own the 570.

While I don't take sides in the GTX / ATI war of words as to what is the best card, it is amusing to see that the 6990 pretty much beats the 590 in most games after all the smack the the GTX people bragged about in this thread. You would have expected the 590 to descend from heaven in a magic beam of light to perform mighty miracles lol.

In reality, while the 590 is a better card as far as noise it does not outperform the 6990 in almost all other aspects. The comparison is at best a draw with speed going to the 6990 and usability going to the 590.

What is even more amusing is that for both cards two 6950s or to 570s in crossfire / SLI outperform the high-end single card monsters for each manufacturer respectively and they are quieter, cheaper and more energy efficient ha, ha.

Again I am not taking sides but based on this thread the GTX posters need to learn to be a little more humble and polite to others. I hope they are not typical of all GTX owners. And yes, ATI posters can be rude too (but not so much on this thread) - hopefully everyone will be a little kinder to others.

Thanks for the reply, Flong. Yes, I have been looking at comparisons for several weeks now and my conclusion is that the gtx 570, even overclocked, might not be that much better than an oc 5870, but I was hoping to hear from someone who had actually changed from the 5870 to a 570 (or even 580) saying what their experience has been.

Here is gpuz info on my card, which is a HIS 5870 iCooler V Turbo 1gb edition (review here: http://www.pcstats.com/NewsView.cfm?NewsID=83306)

This is really a healthy forum.Ive learned many valuable info's. Forum such as this allow free flow of opinions, some useful, some not. It helps me to replace my current HD6850 to GTX 580, or if i wait for couple more weeks to buy GTX 590. Hope my first time venture into NVIDIA a fruitful one. Hope my crysis 2 ive got couple days back can be unwrap .. and installed by then... thnks to all

well I dont know the prices yet but going through gaming benchmarks gtx 570 outperforms 6970 at 1600x900 and 1920x... resolutions while 6970 performs better at 2560x.. resolutions.

As mentioned in the thread before 6970 is a new hardware can new driver updates fix this

If you buy another 6850 and run it in crossfire, I think that it beats a GTX 580 and it is a much cheaper option. Check Tom's Hardware reviews for best graphics cards as they often compare crossfire and sli performance to the top single GPU cards like the 580.

After pouring over the reviews I am definitely going with the 570 for multiple reasons; then proceed to SLi them when I have the money..

In my opinion ATI would only be an option if I had 6 monitors and noise canceling headphones..

The 570 is a great card, you can't go wrong with it. It has a lot more bang for the buck than the 580.

Dude I feel you. Getting a legitimate response is difficult. Everyone throws out charts without addressing so many different variables relevant when bench-marking, making the charts a bit too ambiguous for me. I was also in the same boat with this question but got fed-up after hearing "ati drivers suck" from people who most likely have never owned an ATI card. It seems brand loyal fan-boys are usually the only ones you can count on when posting a discussion on ATI VS Nvidia. I wish you could filter results for "verified owners"
