In all honesty, there is not right or wrong choice here. Both cards perform about the same. They are both about equal in price. Yes, I acknowledge that the GTX 570 is slightly cheaper, but the 6970 is also brand new hardware. I was expecting to pay a +$40 premium for it anyway.
There is not a "Deal maker" for either card. Because I own an AMD chipset, it seems only logical that I go with the AMD GPU. Sure Nvidia might be "faster" on paper, but why would I want to mess with my mobo by putting an Nvidia card in it. I would not be able to run SLI but if I go with the AMD card I would be able to run crossfire some years down the road.
Just because the GTX 570 is "faster", "quieter", and "cheaper" doesn't do it for me.
I am fully expecting AMD to release newer drivers that would place the 6970 at higher performance. I am not worried about the Nvidia card being 5-8fps faster in some games at 1900x1080. And to say that it is "quieter" is really a matter of opinion. I have 5 fans in my case. I honestly wont mind a little noise while im gaming. And the "cheaper" stance, as I stated before, new hardware comes with a premium. It has also been stated in many places that PhysX and Cuda do not make a huge difference in games. So why would I want to get it?
Unless there is a clear reason why I should choose Nvidia over AMD, im not going to. There is no reason for me to listen to a bunch of comments saying that the GTX 570 is ""better." Unless you have owned both cards, you are only basing your decision based on a few charts and graphs. I believe that this particular case is strictly a matter of personal preference. My personal preference is AMD.
I made a major error in creating this thread. I originally said I was "seeking people's opinions on both cards." I now realize that the only opinion in this whole thread that actually matters is mine.
