its going to be for ghost recon advance warfighter. Also i know the x1600 has pixel shader 3.0 to which the x800gt dosnt. Would the 1600 pro be a better upgrade for future games?
The X800 GT only has 8 pixel pipelines; you'd think this would be a no-brainer.
Does SM3.0 make a huge difference in performance?
I'm asking this because I'm trying to upgrade from an old 9250, so my choices are a x1600PRO, x800GTO and 6600GT
so there's no point in getting an uber vidcard if the rest of the system is going to bottleneck it
See i already have the card just wanted to know if it was worth selling to trade in for the x1600 pro, but after reading your ideas, my guess would be no.
Yes, I agree, I like the GTO more than the others, but, again, it's a money issue, I'll try to live just like a monk or something to save nuff money for the GTO
BTW are there any benchies of the unlocked one?
so based onely on performance in Oblivion, which one should I get?
The cards I find in my pricerange are:
Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB
Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB
Radeon X800 GTO 256MB
GeForce 6800XT 128MB
GeForce 6800 128MB
GeForce 6600OC 128MB
GeForce 6600GT 128MB
I don't really care about performance in other games, as oblivion is just about the only game I'm playing at the moment. except for the occasional shootout in farcry when I miss gunfire too much

For money issues....the x1600 takes the lead but if the difference isn't huge (SM 3.0) then I won't mind suffering for the bux necessary for the x800
Also, I have a sempron 3000+, 1Gb DDR400, so, if I get a mumbo jumbo vidcard, much performance would be lost, so there's no point in getting an uber vidcard if the rest of the system is going to bottleneck it
