Hey there techxperts!

I've been here on tom's long enough to learn alot, but haven't quiet gotten the hang of raid setups.

Rig 2 in member config, will be changing storage

Currently I have: Asus Maximus III Formula P55
1x320GB Samsung HD322GJ
1x500GB Samsung HD503HI

Now i have the machine running off the HD503HI and last week got a hold of the HD322GJ to keep as my boot disk. I'll be doing a clean install of window7ultimate x64 on the 320GB and keep the 500GB as a data/backup drive.

I'd want to get another 2x500GB's(dunno when) and run them in RAID 1. Question is, do i need to install the RAID drivers during OS install (at initial stages) in order to setup a RAID array in the future?

I've read up on how to setup a RAID 0 array during windows installation, but haven't stumbled across people trying to do RAID 1 after an install, most of them have the HDD's bought beforehand. Kinda crippled with work so haven't had the time+my hard drives are overflowing.

I'd also want to know if I can setup any array (not for OS) in the above case?

Please Advise

Thank you for your time

?? No longer necessary to install any RAID drivers in Windows 7. Its all built in now thankfully.....it was a PITA in XP.

You can easily create a RAID 1 whenever you want after OS install.

Get a good Spinpoint F3 500GB or 1TB for your C: drive........you have 2 x 5400RPM drives listed for you choice and you will regret that. Everything will load slow.

YO Anort3!!!!

huh?? really, i don't need to install ANY drivers? what about the Intel Matrix Storage Driver that's needed for setup? i was reading intel's rebranded matrix storage tech, called rapid storage technology.

So all i do is go over a clean install, keep the 500Gb and later when i get a pair of 500's i just plug them in, set the sata to RAID and i'm off or is there more to it? mind you dude's, i'll have precious data on both 320GB+500GB (leave the pair of 500's out).

huh? the HD322GJ is a Spinpoint F4/7200RPM and review indicate its a good boot drive. I looked up the numbers before i got a hold of it.The HD503HI is a Spinpoint F3/7200RPM but is rated as an ecogreen drive.

Look here and you can select the drive models via the dropdown menu - http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?type=94&subtype=98&model_cd=509

Nope no more pain in rear RAID driver install. The matrix storage manager can be downloaded after install.

My bad wrong drive I was looking at.
