If I have 2 HD's configured in RAID(increased performance mode)do I install windows XP onto the raid setup or will I need to have a seperate HD for the OS and install my applications on the array?

If you have a configured the RAID array through your controller BIOS then you can install windows on it. You will need the correct driver for it, press F6 when asked during windows setup.
