Question RAM and MOBO

OK I'm narrowing down my search for the perfect memory and have landed on MSI's QVL list for compatible memory by MOBO. My first question is, What is important, that the memory was tested with the MOBO or that the memory was tested with the CPU? Or both? If I were to chose 1 which one should it be?

Second question has to do with the number of DIMMS and speed. Here is what the list looks like and my 2 choices.

VendorModelDDRSPD SpeedSupported SpeedChipsetVoltageSidedSize1|2|4 DIMM
G.SKILLF5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NRDDR54800MHz6000 MHzSK hynix M1.4VDUAL32GB√ | √ |
CORSAIRCMT64GX5M2B5600C40 ver5.43.13DDR54000MHz5600 MHzSK hynix M1.25VDUAL32GB√ | √ | √

The Gskill only has checkmarks in the 1|2 DIMM columns and the Corsair has checkmarks in all 3 DIMM columns 1|2|4. What do the checkmarks mean? Basically I want to start out with a 2X32GB kit and maybe eventually add another 2X32GB kit to achieve the 128 GBs the mobo holds. Do the checkmarks mean I can only do that with the Corsair and not the GSKILL?

Thanks

The QVL list applies to the motherboard.

But the QVL list is not complete. It just means those specific choices are known to work. Many others will as well.

Not sure about your other question....but the standard advice would be to buy 128 now if you need 128....rather than 64 now and 64 more later. Because there is some chance the first pair of 64 will not play nice with the second pair. Maybe you are prepared to take that chance...that would be a personal choice. Might work fine, but no certainty.
