hello community,

this is my 1st post here.

i have an old asus p5nd motherboard and 4 sticks of 2gb ram. the issue is if i put ram in any of the 1st 2 slots (a1, a2), pc wont boot, but ram sticks get warm in those slots. b1,b2 slots work fine.

what could be the problem?

Solution
getting warmed up may be also from overall system temperature, maybe they don't receive power.Or maybe they receive power and don't transfer data through the north bridge. You will have to remain with 2 slots.
my idea was to build a pc for my mom from old parts lying around. 775 motherboards are very rare in India now. putting any expenses for anymore old components is heartbreaking for me
and buying new parts will cost a lot at my place.

is there any case where cleaning northbridge has brought ram slots to life ?

I don't know if someone with no expertise can repair a motherboard or even if heatsink change can work. I would just get used to it and remain with the 2 slots. Old electronics can get damaged and trying to repair may cause more problems.

ill buy new one if i have to but i do want to know , for knowledge , if this motherboard can be revived. i just removed and applied new heatsink compound but not use .. can a bad capacitor make dimm slots unusable?
