Hello,

Recently I noticed almost all my games would crash and freeze my computer and some I could not get past the menu. I ran Memtest86 and got some results I do not know the meaning of, but since all 4 RAM sticks failed tests 3-5 I am assuming a potentially issue with the Motherboard. Since it is almost 10 years old this wouldn't be that surprising. Can someone provide more insight to the potential problem? Link to Memtest86 at bottom.

Specs - Intel Core I7 3930K
Asus Sabertooth X79
4x Gskill Ripjaws X Series 4gb DDR3 1600
Geforce GTX 970 4gb

Solution
the only way to test for sure now is spare parts.
testing the CPU and or RAM in another motherboard or alternate CPU and or RAM on that motherboard

you say all 4 failed certain tests, did you test each stick alone and each showed the same results? Or did you test all 4 at the same time and these were the results?

I suggest testing each stick alone, try to isolate which module has the issue. if testing each single stick gives the exact same results, then the issue is most likely the motherboard or the memory controller in the CPU.

I did all 4 at once, can 1 failed Memory stick cause the same errors on all 4? I ask this because Memtest preformed 13 tests on each stick individually. Also is there a program that specifically tests the memory controller?

by testing all 4 at once you located the issue, the RAM sub system.
testing each stick alone will ID if its a single stick, a duo, or the motherboard/CPU.

test each module alone, remove the other three.
run for 5 passes.
any errors?
test the next stick, 5 passes.
the only way memtest can actually test an individual stick is when a single stick is installed.

Canned Grounding Rant-
shut down system and remove side panel. with the power cable plugged into the PSU touch a bare unpainted metal area of the case. (my favorite spot is an unpainted screw securing the PSU) once you have grounded yourself you can unplug the computers power cable from the PSU and can touch the system.
if you move your feet, or shuffle in your chair, plug in the cord, reground yourself and unplug again.
