Hi:

I need some advice. I want to upgrade my Dell XPS 8700 purchased in 2014 with 32GB of RAM. I have located the following RAM I would like to install:

The RAM appears to be non-ECC and unbuffered which is good. The only issue appears to be the latency. The latency on my existing RAM is CL11-11-11-28. The following has a latency of 9. Will these work:

HyperX Savage 32GB (4 x 8GB) DESKTOP MEMORY

CL9 DDR3 Memory HX316C9SRK4/32 240PIN UDIMM
Kit of 4 32 GB HX316C9SRK4/32
• DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
• Timing 9-9-9
• CAS Latency 9
• Voltage 1.5V

My motherboard in a Dell manufactured Intel board OKWVT8.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

Joe

crucial.com suggests 1.35v ram. considering you wish to populate all 4 slots, the lower voltage is what i'd suggest. often the higher 1.5v ram will work in 2 slots but causes problems with all sots used.

to be safe i'd stick with some 1.35v ram for this upgrade. here's crucial's page for the pc and what they suggest/sell
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Dell/xps-8700

you can go to dell's site and put your service # into the support page and see what they have to say about it, but crucial is rarely wrong :)

Thanks Matt. Appreciate your thoughts. I have looked at Crucial . I understand your point, no mess, no hassle. The only issue is the price. I have a super deal on the HYPERX but they won't be worth the money if they don't work. Not being a computer geek, I a bit concerned about have to make BIOS changes for latency or voltage. Would definitely need some help if i headed down that road. Your advice gives me pause to move forward with the HyperX Savage.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Matt. There are 4 x 8GB RAM modules for $120 for the HyperX. That's why I'm so interested. The price is great and I won't need to upgrade to the 19 for 2 years. These are used, not new, but in excellent shape. I currently have 4 x 4 GB of Dell stock RAM, but I need more RAM because of my musical studio.

Just one more questions. The G. Skills Ripjaws are definitely good RAM. I didn't see the latency and voltage on the site. Do you know if these are CL11 and 1.35v. Thanks.
