Rambus Memory Problems

Hi, Could anyone help. I have a Pentium 4 1500Mhz running on a Packard Bell Evergreen motherboard. It currently has two sticks of 64MB Rambus non ecc PC800 sticks in the system. I have tried upgrading the memory by adding 2 x 64 mb sticks of Samsung memory into the board, but found the board bleeped 6 times and wouldnot boot at all. This memory was PC600 so the fault was but down to this, however I am sure you can mix PC600 and 800 together as long as you dont mind the sytem running at the slower rate.

I have since tried again this time with PC800 NEC 64mb x 2 chips which are the same Dimm chip number that my current memory has got. The motherboard again fails to boot even with only the two new memory chips in. We get the same responce as last time. I cannot belive 4 chips are faulty even from different shops.

Has anyone got any ideas at all, before I turn grey!!!

Many Thanks

Barry

Check out the mainboard manual. You might have to stagger the placement of the modules. The channels on the board must be identical.

I could be more precise, but I'd need the model number of the mainboard. There are several different Evergreen boards, and the requirements may be different, depending on the age of the board.

For specific information, please add as many system specifications as possible in an online post. It can really make a difference.

For example:

<A HREF="http://www.packardbell.co.uk/support/node210.asp" target="_new">No display at boot when using four RIMMs of 64 MB on an Evergreen (MS6339) motherboard</A>

Whether this applies to you, I cannot say.
