So I get these random black screens on bootup. It doesnt happen all the time, but its being occuring more frequently now. Basically I have to reset the PC about once or twice for it to boot up. I'm thinking this could be a RAM issue as I am running two different sticks from different manufacturers, with I think different voltage ratings and timings but same speed. Ran a memtest for 4 passes and no errors. My guess is that since the motherboard has to configure the memories at startup to bascially match (voltages, timings) that could be the issue ?, what do you guys think ?

Solution
remove all the RAM and try to boot, you should get a beep alarm from the motherboard. if not make sure the speaker is connected (to the front panel connector on the motherboard not the audio ports) and try again.
If there is no speaker connected you will not get any diagnostic codes, the motherboard may be telling you what is wrong.
If it were a RAM issue like you described, with the mobo having to configure them every time that would usually lead to an error during POST and you'd get the corresponding beep code. This assuming you get the black screen after being able to see the initial POST screen (where it states your mobo model.

If it's indeed after passing the POST then your most likely candidate is your HDD, could be something as simple as a failing SATA cable, try reconnecting it or using a new one and see if the issue goes away.

My specs:

CPU: Intel Core I5 4460

RAM: 2*4gb (Generic ram from ADATA and strontium)

Video Card: Zotac AMP GTX 1060 6gb

Storage: Sandisk Ultra II 240gb SSD
Samsung Spinpoint 500gb HDD
Western Digital Caviar Blue 320gb HDD

Motherboard: Gigabyte H81M-S2PH

PSU: Arctic cooling fusion 550RF 500W

I'll try removing a stick and see

Thing is, when it boots up, I see no post screen, its just black as if the monitor isnt even connected, no beeps. The keyboard and mouse lights flash. Not sure if its even on the desktop, but what I did do is press shift 5 times to hear that sticky key beep, and nothing, so im guessing its not on the desktop ?. I even switched the cable to the integrated GPU while the screen is black and still nothing shows up, so maybe its not the GPU ?

I will try testing my SSD, maybe thats the problem

That seems like a good suggestion. I managed to find and connect a speaker. Since this black screen is so random, will have to wait till it occurs again. Thanks
