Hello,
sometimes when I boot XP SP3 with all the latest updates there is no volume control icon and sometimes there is. I uninstalled from device manager and reinstalled. Even replaced the sound card. Tried running Volume Tray program and sometimes it disappears while XP is running and reports something like no sound device found. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Lee

it's probably a registry issue...
One think I can't think of is the tray notify, U can try:
Start> run ; type regedit and ok.
Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify
(sorry for so many keys, but it depends on your Windows version actually)

And if you still can't find the IconStreams and PastIconStream then you can also use Edit >Find next to search for them.

When U find IconStreams and PastIconStream, you right-click on both of those and delete them.
Do not do anything else in there!

Restart. Did that helped? I can't think of anything else right now... :hello:
