I'm currently using Windows 10 and there's a minor and slightly annoying behaviour with my desktop icons.

I usually sort my desktop icons by alphabetical order, and for a few months now, Windows seems to always leave a one-space gap when it loads up the icons on startup. I usually just re-sort my icons and get on with my day, but every time I boot up my system it will create this same gap every time.

It's a small issue, but it's starting to frustrate me a bit, and despite numerous Google searches I've not been able to find anyone else who's had this same problem, let alone figure out a fix for this issue, though I feel like I'm probably using the wrong keywords.

If anyone could provide or point me to a solution I would be most grateful. Cheers!

You may have a hidden file that's filling the space, to see if it is try this:

Open File Explorer and go to C:\Users\[your username]\Desktop. Make sure this view is showing hidden files. See if there are any hidden desktop shortcuts here that could be taking up space
