Ok i keep having random reboots with windows xp pro, i had this problem before i formated and reinstalled windows xp and now have the same problem again. They happend at anything, i could be playing games, browsing the web, or no one on the pc. I just got a program SystemSuite 4.0 which can diagnost your pc for problems, so i did it and it found problems with the sound card. Out of all the test done on it only 2 were good the rest failed and it said that it was either because of a bad loopback cable or a failing sound card. I've tested the rest of my hardware and there wasnt any errors. So my guess its either the sound card, maybe the powersupply or software issue.

My specs
Athlon XP 1800+
512 of DDR 2100
Radeon VE 32MB
40 gig Maxtor Drive
Asus A7V 333
Sound Blaster Live Gamer-x 5.1

So could it be my sound blaster giving me problems?

Remove the soundcard and see if your reboot issues continue.

Also, you should change WinXP settings so you get a BSOD instead of a reboot. The information on a BSOD is helpful in determining problems. To do that:

Open System Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery
Under "System Failure", Uncheck "Automatically Restart".

You'll have to manually reboot now when you get errors, but it may give you some insight as to what is going on.

*Ditto*

If you can tell us the error codes, it would be a lot of help.

I see "A faulty loopback cable" several times. Maybe you should check that also.

Ok. Did it give you the exact same error when you had the SB Live! card in? If it's referring to the C-Media Wave Device in both instances, then it's an issue with your onboard sound. Assuming that's the case, I'd remove all drivers/software from Windows for the onboard sound, reboot into the BIOS and disable onboard sound. Then bootup (with no sound device installed), and see if you get that error. If you dont, load up the SB Live! and you might be good to go.

Ok could an IRQ conflict casue the random reboots? cause i just got a BSOD and its said IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and i just look at the list of irq's in my device manager and this is what it shows
0 system timer
1 keyboard
3 COM2
4 COM 1
6 floppy drive
8 CMOS/rtc
9 MS ACPI-Compliant system
13 numeric data processor
14 Primary IDE
15 Secondary IDE
16 NIC
16 Vid card (ok here why does it say PCI when i got an AGP)
16 VIA Rev 5 or later USB host controller
17 Onboard Sounc Card
17 USB 2.0 Host controller
19 VIA Rev 5 or later USB host controller
21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB host controller
21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB host controller

Now from what i learned if you got to things on the same IRQ it can and will cause problems.
