]First, the specs...
Original machine:
Intel Q6600 quad core
Foxconn G9657MA-8EKRSS2H Mobo
2 GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 800
Ati Radeon 2600 XT
Zumax 750w Power Supply
Ok here's the deal. I haven't been playing many games lately due to work, but the machine does run Seti@Home for it's screensaver. I installed Left 4 Dead, started playing it and about 3 or 4 mins into it, the machine just shuts off. No blue screen or anything just.....off.
I installed Steam and TeamFortress, got about 5 mins into that and the same thing.
Guessing it was heat related, I installed CoreTemp, ran Left4Dead in windowed mode so I could see the CoreTemp tray icons and played the game...the temp(s) never got above 58c before it shut down.
I've had this machine for a year or so and decided to just build a newer machine.
New Machine Specs:
Intel Core i7-920 2.66Ghz 8M LGA1366 CPU
EVGA X58 SLI Intel X58 Socket LGA1366 mobo
ATI Radeon 2600XT (same card..didn't replace it)
6GB OCZ Reaper PC16000 DDR3 ram
Shark 635 Watt Power Supply
I didn't originally replace the power supply. The Zumax supply was relatively new.
I built the new machine, fired up Left 4 Dead and it shutdown AGAIN.
I fired up OCCT and ran the power supply test which caused the machine to shutdown the same way as in-game(s).
Convinced it was the power supply, I went and got the Shark 635 Watt which was all that was available at the time but I'm only running one 7200rpm sata drive and a DVD burner and figure the 635 would be plenty anyway.
Once *again* Left4Dead shutdown a few mins into gameplay.
I've replaced everything except the ATI 2600-XT graphics card.
Could the card really be the problem? Logic dictates that it must be, but I haven't ever heard of that before.
One other item worth mentioning, the power wiring in this house *sucks*. If you fire up too many components in this room, no matter what sockets you use on any wall, things will start to shut off, or the breaker will blow.
Is it more likely the card or power from the wall to the PS?
TIA
cowbite
After installing the new PS, Left4Dead shutdown once again.
