Question Randoms BSOD during normal use or when I shut down the pc

I have a GTX 1070, EVGA 650W G3 PSU, 2x8 GB Corsair 3200 MHz, ASRock B450M Steel Legend, Ryzen 5 3600. No OC, all default settings, the RAMs either XMP or default settings is the same. All is up to date, Windows, drivers, etc. no errors with memtest86. The system randomly gives me a BSOD just after I press the Windows button -> shutdown, the system starts shutting down and inmediately a BSOD appears. I recently played Gears 5 and randomly crashes and send me to desktop, same with Crysis Warhead, very weird. So I decided to upgrade to Ryzen 7 5700x3D and 2X16 GB Kingston Fury Beast 3200 MHz. for a month It was all ok but again the BSOD started almost every day. I can't spend money for every component and figure what's causing the issue. I recently changed the PSU for a MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5, but the bsod still occurs. So the last components I haven't changed yet are the Motherboard, SSD (Western Digital Green SN350 1 TB M.2-2280) and the GPU.

a BSOD appears

win32kbase.sys indicates system (OS) corruption.

Possible fixes;

1. Open Start.

2. Search for Command Prompt (or cmd.exe), right-click the top/correct result, and select the Run as administrator option.

3. Type the following command to perform system repair and press Enter:
SFC /scannow

4. If the scan found corrupt files and repaired them, run the same command again, just in case:
(if no errors were found, skip to step #5)
SFC /scannow

5. Once no errors are found with SFC /scannow, type the following command to perform a quick check and press Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

6. Once this is done and when corruption is detected, type in another command for in-depth scan and press Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

7. Once this is done and there are issues with system image, type in another command for fixing it and press Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

8. Once the system image repair is complete, type in another command and press Enter:
SFC /scannow

9. After last once completes, final command with Enter press would be:
exit

This closes the terminal window.

Note: SFC /scannow, DISM /ScanHealth and DISM /RestoreHealth may take a long time to complete. Do not close the terminal window or do not reboot the system, when each of theses scans/fixes are taking place, even when they seemingly get stuck.


If this doesn't work;
* Format OS drive.
* Make a new, clean Win installation.

I installed first the pro version, It gave me the error and later i tried installing Home version ( both clean installs, I never said I installed them at the same time, ).
The one you posted I already did it before and never worked, I’m not new on this stuff, and other suggestions I found on other similar post I already did it, How Windows 11 can be corrupted or damaged if I did a clean Windows installation? I take care of that, I even install drivers one by one; I install one driver, then I restart, and after I only install Steam and some games I use.

Well, you failed to state that you've already did what i suggested. All you said, is;

no errors with memtest86.

So, how i'm supposed to know, what troubleshooting steps you already did, if you don't disclose them? 🤔

OS can become corrupt at any given moment.

Either OS became corrupt or you did something to make the BSoDs to appear again.
So, what you exactly did, when you started to see the issues?

win32kbase.sys also indicates driver conflict.

Some games install 3rd party anti-cheating software, that can conflict with the system. And some Steam games require you to install 3rd party launch software as well, that can cause issues (e.g Watch Dogs or It Takes Two). While when uninstalling the game, the 3rd party software still (usually) remains.

The BSOD, I did clean installs and only leave steam and one game and the problem persist.

That is a new BSOD only showing since 24H2

Based on your analysis and the fact that system file checks and hardware tests are coming back 100%, it appears the BSOD with bugcheck code c01e0103 (where ShellHost.exe and win32kbase.sys (specifically the DirectComposition component) are implicated) is a known issue in the Windows 11 24H2 build.

One workaround that many users have found helpful is to disable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, which can sometimes reduce the stress on DirectComposition and may prevent these sporadic crashes.

To disable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, please follow these steps:

- Open the Settings app.
- Go to System, then Display.
- Scroll down and select Graphics.
- Locate the option for Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (Inside advanced settings) and toggle it Off.
- Restart your computer.

After restarting, observe if the BSODs occur less frequently or stop entirely. Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

Before you start replacing parts.....Go to your local Repair shop and buy a front panel power switch.

If they dont sell new ones then ask if they can cannibalize an old broken system. It is just to test your switch.

I had a PITA random shutdown case on my PC. After replacing all cables and nearly all items in the PC including mem, CPU, and MOBO it turned out to be a 3 dollar front power switch.

You said your PSU is good so makes the switch even more suspect at this point.

But the case is also new... I bought it on August 2024, I had no issues until recently. Their cables are fine. Also there's no nearly repair shop where I live, if I had it, I would have gone with them in first place.

its graphics related, has nothing to do with the power switch on case. Never heard of a BSOD caused by a physical case switch so far... been doing this a while.
