Range Extender Option

Hello, I am in dire need of a extender because my router is in the corner of the basement (where the cables are) and I was reading the wirecutter for the best extender and they recommend this http://goo.gl/ODHVJ but I also have a friend that is the IT manager in a well known college around me and he recommended this one http://goo.gl/bcvblC Now I am not familiar with the second brand and was looking for some input OR if there is some other product that you would recommend. All of them are bad options that you use when you have no other choice. I would look at powerline network or ethernet cable with a router/AP on the end first. The article you link discusses the issues with repeaters. Your house and the signal level will make a lot more difference than particular brands. There is not a significant difference between most products no matter how many times they put the word hi-power in their advertisements. The vast majority transmit near the maximum legal limits. It mostly comes down to which you like the interface more.
