OK, I just purchased the Razer Kraken 7.1s and I noticed that there was a hissing noise in the background. The Krakens are completely usb and I have tried using all other ports on my pc and I even tried them on a different pc and the hissing noise was still there. If anyone has experience or knows how to fix this problem any of your help would be gratefully appreciated!

I had this hizzing noise and distorted sound on low level volume. Razer Kraken 7.1 here
I fixed the problem.
On a laptop.
How? By uninstalling Razer Synapse!
I noticed that my headset didn't have that noise on a computer without the Razer driver.
Awesome sound now.
Works without third party drivers on Windows 7 and up.

But there is another problem:
Hissing noise activates from volume 72 to 74. (Deactivates from 74 to 72)
I don't know if I hear a "buzzing noise"
But I hear a VEERYY LITTLE noise. Your PC will be louder than that anyway.

I just tried this (along with many other solutions posted here) and I still get the problem with the static at low amplitudes. I wondered if there should be a static noise but the headset cuts it off after a certain volume.

So, did you do anything else?
When you click positions on the windows audio slider in the task-bar do you get any static before or after the sound? - That seems to be my problem.

"When you click positions on the windows audio slider in the task-bar do you get any static before or after the sound? - That seems to be my problem."

That's me!

Algo having problems with Skype and DOTA 2

Ok, I still have the problem but it seems that if you fully disable synapse and turn your volume down a fair bit, the static is less pronounced. The opposite is true when synapse is enabled. And I also get the constant static at high volumes (or I used to).
Also I noticed that setting the colour to spectrum cycling caused an ambient static.

What I think it is, is that Razer have made a product and not tested it but we're the only ones who have noticed. I sent mine back, got a replacement and had the same problem, it wasn't my PC, I tested on 3 different machines with different operating systems, with and without Synapse. Best results were on the PS4 but the static was still there.

I figured it out! Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. Next, right click on your speaker/headphones and go to Properties. Click on Enhancements, and make sure that Loudness Equalization is NOT CHECKED. This fixed it for mo, hope it helps.

What version of windows are you using? There's no enhancements option for me.

I have the same problem with razer krakekn usb not 7.1 but they are almost the same i just ordered a usb hub from ebay with an ac adapter i will try it and i will see if it wil lfix my issue maybe it will who knows

I have a little more to report on this.

I did eventually swap my kraken for a Kingston Cloud Pro II

It is also a 7.1 USB only this one comes with 2 separate wires, a 3 channel audio jack and a USB that you can plug that into which you plug into your PC. There are 3 levels to this. The USB has a surround sound toggle button on it.

Most static - 7.1 & USB
Medium static - stereo & USB
Low static - stereo direct connection, even then there is some static but it's random and caused by the case not being earthed. Also if you choose this method of connection you will have to buy a splitter to use the mic.

So it's probably an issue with simulated surround sound and USB connections.

It's interesting, I had a £10 stereo headset that never had any static but it was of poor build quality and had a low range of frequencies. So maybe you get interference when the mic and speakers are in one wire, a splitter might reduce that static, I will get one and see if it improves it.

Side note: I also got some static with apple earphones, in the same way as the third option of connection I listed.

I would've thought so too, but I can't help but think this would solve a different problem, one where there'd be a constant static, unless the computer doesn't send a signal when no sound is playing and its the signal to cause the static.

It's quite an expensive bit of kit, relative to the headphones anyway. My question to you is: Did you have this static issue where there was a definite static only when sound was playing (that was more noticeable at low volumes) and did this solve it?

Reporting back, again.
The Audioquest jitterbug doesn't help with surround sound, I feel like I've wasted £40 now ($60). There is no difference in static between this and regularly plugged in when using surround sound, with 2 channels the magnitude of the static is decreased. I noticed the jitterbug only works when plugged directly into the mobo too.
I can recommend the splitter for an audio jack, so you can use both mic and headphones with a singal wire, again, ambient static is vastly reduced, £7 well spent.

Did this fix your problem? plz ilove this headset in every way, but the hissing sound is destroying it... and i would hate to send it back, and get another one

Alright this worked for me, found out the solution today.
Everything is about the electricity on your PC the low/high frequencies and such.
All i have done is: plugged my USB mouse in the front panel and my USB kraken on the rear (putted all the audio settings to the highest and that was it, no more hissing or buzzing sound for me, hope it helps)
Also you can test other ways, change all cables to different usb slots to see how it goes.

Looks like its the headset :/. Replacing it wont work. Anyway i will try buying logitech this time or just go with razer kraken pro which works without usb

Sorry if I'm late to the party!

f you haven't fixed it yet, I just fixed mine. Turns out is the recording devices:

1) Download Razer Synapse if you haven't already.

2) Right click the sound icon in the bottom right on your desktop.

3) Go to recording devices and you should see 2 razer mics.

4) Right click the Line in (Razer Surround Audio Coontroller) and click "set as default device"

The problem is that your headphones are trying to use 2 mics at once which is conflicting when audio is played. - Hope I helped! 😀

You're the man!! that worked for me. such a simple solution thank you.

I just got a pair of kraken 7.1 classics. i noticed a static on low volume levels like it was struggling to produce the sound. you need to turn the volume up high (which essentially just boosts power to the headset) as another poster stated(i have mine set to 70 and other programs set to 10) and then turn down the volume for individual programs in the mixer(synapse). and you can adjust other application volumes further in the windows mixer.

Well one thing I noticed is that the headset is "calibrated/boosted" to a high level. I can hear everything good with the sound on like 15%. The hissing problem only occures (on other headsets) when you have choosen a to high volume on the headset (not in windows, but with the volume button on the headset. If you know what i mean). If there just was a way to "calibrate the headset to a lower volume. I think the problem is that the headset get's to much power.

Hello, i spoke with some sound techs and they told me that they best solution is internal sound card but the big issue is that sound cards don't offer usb jacks... otherwise we have to invest on a more than decent motherboard which provides good EMI shielding. i personally tried powered usb but it made it worse. Turning low the volume in Synapse might help but it's sad when you pay 50+ euros on a headset and feel disappointed.
