RE: AMD 1.4 Ghz: L1 bridge must be closed????

I have a question about AMD 1.4 Ghz.
I was reading "How-to" section in Tom's...
I just read that "the L1 bridge must be closed with lead pencil"
What is the purpose of doing that?
And, do I really have to do that?

the closing of the "L1" bridges is only if you want to unlock the multiplier so that you can overclock the processor through the multiplier. if you get an AMD 1.4Ghz processor and don't want to overclock then don't worry about it.

BTW, most of the newer retail T-Birds come with the bridges already closed.

is this reality... i thought it would more realistic.

Yes, the 1.4s are factory-unlocked
Or maybe they just forgot that last little step with the laser cutting the bridges

Does 1.4 AMD need to be "adjusted" to be stable like the 1.3?
