Re setting Graphics resolution

I inadvertently set the graphics resolution in Half Life 2 to one higher
then my monitor supports. Consequently I can not see anything. Is there any
way to re-set the resolution? I dont want to have to re install the
application if at all possible.

Reinstalling the game would not fix the problem anyway. The resolution is
stored in the registry.

I can't remember the specific keys off the top of my head, but search the
registry for Valve or Steam and look around until you find a reg folder/key
with the number 220. That's the id for Half-Life 2, and in there will be
some keys that hold some video settings. You can either change them if you
know what your doing, or you can delete the 220 folder and run HL2 again,
and HL2 will recreate the keys from defaults. That way, you will get a
default res that you can reset to your liking.

Load steam....go to hl2 and right click and select properties....

Then click launch options...and type "-autoconfig" without the quotes....but
remember to delete that after you have reset ur settings...otherwise ur
settings will always "default" everytime u play the game...

Thank you for your help. I used XP System Restore and went back 1 day. All
is OK now
