really stuck!!

Hey Guys i really need your help

System in question

P4C800
Geforce4 440MX
Maxtor 80gig
Ram 1 gig

This is friends system, all of sudden his system seems to only want to load in safe mode, i have isolated the problem to his vid card.

It seems that as long as the driver is installed the screen is black unless we are in safe mode (default 640/480)
If i uninstall vid, the system will reboot into normal mode but as soon as i try to install driver, screen goes black

Is this the video card that is shot, if so why does it work as a vga compatible card at 640x480 but not normally.

Any help would be really appreciated!!

When you install graphics drivers, you are basically turning on the cards functionality. In VGA mode, the card is hardly working.

If you're losing your monitor signal when windows loads the proper display driver, the I'd be willing to bet your power supply is weak, or you have voltage problems some where.
