Hi, I recently deleted 250gb worth of downloads, programs, music, videos etc. and I feel like computer may be running a little sub-par.

So I'm asking if there is anything I should do after deleting that much.

Also, would a Check disk be at all necessary?

If so, should I check both boxes Scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors, AND Automatically fix file system errors?

I just know that a few years ago, I had a hdd fail on me and ended up just purchasing a whole new computer (new hdd + windows 7 was gonna be pricey enough to just have to buy a new pc).

Just wondering if there is a way to prevent that. Also I recently had a few blue screens, and in the 3 years of owning the computer a total of probably 9 or so BSOD's (most of them caused by bad nvidia drivers, and a couple from what I deduced was a RAM error or at least I think thats what caused them). So just curious, because I've heard it's good to do disk check/defrag every once in awhile(but that was also way back with like windows ME).

Thanks in advance for any contributions to this thread, tomshardware + google have been very helpful for me several times in the last month or so that I've been here.

Deleting data on HDD will not increase performance not like in SSD,
De fragment data on HDD will help but not helping in SSD.
Check disk regularly with /f (fix system error) is recommended, using /r (recover bad sector) only needed when the drive had minor failing but not major one.

The only thing i know to boost performance without adding hw is cleaning/deactivate any background program/service.

about BSOD u will need to check the cause one by one because it could be anything...

First things first.
Rule out hardware issues, in this case overheating. A clogged up fan/radiator can cause instability due to overheating, which can cause BSOD. Open the case and do a thorough cleaning, including the GPU in the process.
Then: move on to do a clean up and a check up of the HDD. Run defrag a few times after the clean up, and run a chkdsk:
chkdsk x: /f/r , where x is your drive's letter.
Last, but not least, run a virus check, then do a clean drivers install for your GPU.
If still problems, hit us back. Good luck.
