Completely lost on this issue. Just built a new PC from all new parts.

It's been a nightmare tbh. The wifi and Ethernet adapter work for ~3 min when I start my PC before the drop in speed and then just don't work anymore / don't get a connection anymore/ don't find any networks anymore. It's always one of those but not always the same. Sometimes I boot anew and they don't work at all (Ethernet/wifi driver can not start code 10).

Also - and I don't know if those things are connected but it just seems likely since it's so weird in behavior - when I restart my PC it's just stuck on the "restarting" screen forever. If I turn it off manually and start it I have to do that twice for it to boot, no debug lights the first time. Regular shut down is fine MOST times but once every now and then I need to cut the power and start it again.

And when I try to start my PC sometimes I have to boot twice or 3 times. Sometimes the debug lights on my the mobo come on but don't cycle all the way through. Sometimes they don't come on at all.

I'm on windows 11.

Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
RAM: G.SKILL Flare X5 Series (AMD Expo) DDR5 RAM 32GB (2 x 16GB)
GPU: XFX - SPEEDSTER MERC319 AMD Radeon RX 7800XT 16GB GDDR6
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz Eight-Core AM5

I've tried:
- changing Ethernet cable
- uninstalling adapters
- updating adapters
- installing different adapters
- reverting back to old adapter version
- different motherboard
- different RAM
- clean windows 11 install TWICE
- different advanced settings for the adapters
- enabling AMD expo
- simply letting it run for hours and waiting if anything changes
- windows troubleshooter
- new SSD (as it was recommended on a different thread since the other one seems to be prone to causing issues)

I'm honestly just lost. I thought it was the motherboard or RAM at first but since swapping them hasn't changed the issue at hand I'm just confused at this point.

It did work fine for the last week and yesterday it acted up again. I didn't change ANYTHING at all. I even activated windows now to see if that changes anything.

Could it be a PSU issue? Or CPU? I have multiple parts here bc I wanted to build the same build for my husband but I'm not confident in doing that until I can figure out what is causing these issues.

It's not overclocked either. Would trying windows 10 instead of 11 help and then just upgrading to 11 instead?

I will take any help at this point. I've troubleshot this for the last 4 weeks with all the downtime I get from work and I just want it to work 😭

Try this. Install a cheap PCIe network adapter and disable the onboard devices in the BIOS. Does that change the behavior at all?
Will order one to test this as I do not have one on hand. Anything else I can try in the meantime? I'm in the process of swapping PSU rn and then CPU in hopes it's a hardware issue.

Edit: since it's not just the Ethernet / wifi but also the whole system just seems buggy with the restart it's odd

Not really. Try the swapping, but this very well could be a defective network component. Not unheard of.

That would mean swapping the motherboard.

Just a thought...when you installed the motherboard, did you have any extra standoffs/mounts under the motherboard that you didn't use? Also, have you inspected the I/O plate (a.k.a. ATX plate) on the back of your system (where the ports exit the case) to verify that none of the little grounding fingers are poking into any of the ports?

But what's the chance of 2 motherboards having the same issue? I already swapped the motherboard once.

I did have mounts but I double checked and my case doesn't use mounts / has integrated mounts. Case is nzxt h9 flow. Unless I totally messed that up lol.

Io plate looks fine

Just a small sanity check: Is all the screws in the motherboard installed and tighten down evenly?

Because 1 screw holes not connected to case sometimes equal an open ground plane in a circuit area, and 2, a board tighten down unevenly can bend causing the cpu to be not seated and the only way to fix this is to loosen all the screws and tighten them back up evenly.

I can retighten them however I am usually pretty careful about tightening properly and evenly and not just tightening screw 1/x fully and then moving to 2/x but first getting them all tightened ever so slightly and then doing the rest of the tightening.

1 hole is always empty in this case due to the mounting (not empty but there's a placeholder so to speak).

Could you explain how the restarting & wifi issues would be connected to the Ethernet adapter being faulty? (In 2 mobos nonetheless)
It isolates what the problem could be. While chances are low, there could be an issue with the motherboards. This is a simple way to verify. You mentioned having issues with both the wired and wireless devices.

By the way, did you get your drivers from here?

Yes I did get my driver's from the official MSI website.

What would be the steps to take for the wifi since the adapter will not be covering this?

Its probably the issue. There are very few motherboards that can handle not all the screws installed. That is why the all plexi-glass cases flopped in the market place years ago.

Where is this screw hole located?
In the middle. If you look up the cass nzxt h9 flow you should be able to find a picture of it.

There are a bunch of ppl using this case tho so I feel like it would be a more common issue no?

By the one hole, are you referring on a mounting point that has a raised part/nub/tab that holds the motherboard in place while you install all the other screws?

Or something else? Like a place to attach an extra mount (often included in the parts pile) that you have to install?

Images I saw of the case weren't very clear.
