That is a decent choice. Also take a look at the Acer 640U. That one is EXTREMELY cheap. For a little higher price, the Epson Perfections are worth a look.

Look at the Epson 1200U USB 1200x2400 Optical not software, which is what to look for and not the software resolution. They also have a 600x1200 636U which had good reviews over a year ago. Very fast for prescan and scan function. Very good imaging depending on your needs.
I have an HP scanner and I love it except that it has this ANNOYING problem of not scanning images to the right size. For instance, I can scan in a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, specify an output of 100% of original size, and the saved document is like 15 x 22 inches. Also, Hp tech support is terrible. I emailed them about this problem and they sent me directions about how to scan an image, doh!
Microtex X6, once $150, now $32 (after rebate) at BestBuy.com, if any left...36 bit, VERY accurate reproduction of 2D material, VERY good scanning of 3D. that's right 3D objects, like a head of a golf club. Really works...and you can't beat the price! Good luck, Kit
I had a HP 3300C scanner a few months ago. I returned it after 2 days on warranty and got a canon one. The 3300C had holes on the bottom of it, which allowed dust to get in and collect on the underside of the glass, giving speckles on all scanned images.
I paid a little more and got the Canon 1220U which has been an excellent scanner.
Try and get an Agfa 1220u, Snapscan Touch, E20 or E25. all of these scanners give excellent results. The dpi is important, but most people forget about the quality of the optics and the colour management. Agfa have both well under control.
