Hello all. I've been using an ASUS PB278Q as my monitor for ten years now and I'm finally looking to pick up a new monitor to become my primary one and this will become my secondary. Looking for 120Hz+ and at least the same size, and top end of the budget is around $500, though I can swing a little more if it's an especially good purchase. I know a little about monitors but I'm not intimately familiar with reading and interpreting the specs and such and so could use some advice. Just to provide some ideas at what I've been eyeing:
This is one I've been looking at. One thing is the contrast ratio is a tiny fraction of what my current monitor is listed to be. That said, clearly the "80,000,000:1" ratio listed for the PB278Q is a dynamic contrast ratio. Not quite sure how to compare that to the 3000:1 listed for this Dell monitor, though seems it's dynamic range is somehow also 3000:1? That's made even more confusing by the number of expensive monitors I see with a ratio of 1000:1. Not sure if that's good or bad or neither.
This is another one I've considered, just about right up against the top of my budget.
I don't need 165Hz or a massive size of course but it seems the monitors in this size range and with the other qualities I want also tend to be higher refresh rate(?). If I could grab a monitor that is, say, 120Hz and better in other aspects for the same price as a monitor that is 165Hz I would take the former.
I'd appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks very much.
