ok I now have this monitor (samsung 204B) having received it earlier today, set it up and have been playing around on it. After some preliminary usage, I can only say that I feel I have totally spoilt myself! I always wanted 1600 x 1200 resolution and now I have it! It revolutionises and makes using a computer so much easier and more fun, no more having to be constantly resizing windows (because of the restricted screen space) and scrolling left-right and up-down. If the picture is good or bad, well I'm not really expert enough to tell, however it looks good to me. I've tested the monitor on some older games with mixed results, as many older games don't support such a high resolution, although generally the results have been favourable and the games are still playable (I may try resintalling combat mission to see if that clarifies the slightly blurred text [edit - this has now fixed the problem and the game looks great]). What I need to do now is test the monitor on some more modern games (although I don't really have that many, I plan on getting Civ4 and Rome:total war and possibly Galactic Civilisations 2 and also waiting on some combat flight simulators to come out).
However my delight at this purchase is tempered by the fact that it does seem that todays DVD's will be replaced with Blu-Ray discs, requiring HD compliant monitors. This may happen within the next 2 years, requiring a mass upgrade to HD compliant monitors. However until then, I intend to enjoy this monitor for as long as I can and will then certainly be in the market for a 1920 x 1250 HD monitor.
In the new year I'm upgrading from my current socket 939 Athlon 3500+ single core processor to a dual-core processor, which should bring further benefits.
