Hey,

i saw this review and thought, hey i got a review lol. I'm looking to buy a cd-rw and scared to death that i might buy a peice of crap. I am staying away anything acer as they are a problem! So you say the plextor cd-rw is good? what makes it good, is the software good enough? have you had any problems at all?

Thanks!

Plextor just has just always made a very good quality CD drive. If you buy a Plextor you know it will work well. This particular burner though has an added benifit: BURN-proof technology. This a feature unique to the Plextor 12/10/32 series CD-RW drives. It eliminates buffer underruns; the condition where the data supply to the CD-RW runs out so the burner just stops writing, thereby making you a nice shiny coaster. There is a downside though, if you buy one of these drives you will have to go out and actually buy coasters to put your drinks on :)

Here's a link to the Plextor site:

I'll chime in with my vote for the Plextor 12/10/32. I bought one a few weeks ago and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

I've never heard anyone complain about a Plextor...

I'd suggest Burn-proof technology; many 12x10x32x speed drives have this feature now. A good site is http://direct.mwave.com/ for hardware; the Plextor 12x10x32x with Burn-proof technology can be had bare there for 205$, and with all the necessary software for 225$.

This site seems to have the cheapest prices with the best selection. I'm going to order a system to put together from them with following components:

AMD 1 gig tbird
Abit KT7 RAID
Kingmax 150 mhz 128mb RAM
Enlight 7237 case w/300w ps
IBM Deskstar ATA/100 7200 RPM - 45 GB
Plextor 12x10x32x CD-RW
(Oh, and HSF from somewhere too, don't worry I won't overcook my bird :)

Other parts will be scrounged from current system, which is:

Pentium 200MMX; 40 MB RAM; Windows 95; 3 gig HD

but I have the option to go scsi, How does this compare to the scsi burners. I had a Ricoh scsi 2x4x6 for about 5 years and burned a lot of disks and now it has a servo tracking error but it reads fine. I dont no if a cleaner would do anything if thats even the problem.
I might just get a new one. Does anyone here use scsi burners for a good recomendation...
