hi all,

so i have red that if you record gameplay (with fraps) to a separate drive it improve's FPS.

i notice when playing bf3 my fps is good (around 50fps, 900p) but sometimes it dips into the 10-20 and it's really annoying.

i play and record on two seagate 750Gb HDD's in RAID0

i have an old HDD of 128 Gb but it's quite old so isn't it slower then the two drive's in RAID0 ?

thanks in advance

ps:

my hardware

i5 4670K, 212 EVO (facory clock)
2 seagate 750Gb in RAID 0
sapphire radeon hd 7870: core1050 mHz and menory 2 Gb at 1250 mHz
750W psu
6Gb kington 1330 mHz menory (my next upgrade will be to 16 Gb)
gigabyte z87x-d3h

Solution

Sorry for responding late, I forgot to check the forums yesterday.

I just ran a benchmark to test this out, here are the results.

Empty Server on Kharg Island TDM:

Same Drive as BF3
2014-07-28 16:34:45 - bf3
Frames: 3630 - Time: 30000ms - Avg: 121.000 - Min: 116 - Max: 141

Separate Drive than BF3
2014-07-28 16:35:52 - bf3
Frames: 3645 - Time: 30000ms - Avg: 121.500 - Min: 116 - Max: 156

Full Server Conquest on Caspian Border 64 player:

Same Drive as BF3
2014-07-28 16:48:22 - bf3
Frames: 2286...

it's a hitachi dekstar 11S45J485027V3t30alH2
SATA 3Gb/s 7200rpm

i noticed it's a 160Gb drive when i looked closer at it

i have more than enough storage on my computer so that's not the point
but will it improve the quality of the recording?
i just want to ask this before doing it because i use that drive in a server and i have to install a new drive cache for my 750D if i want to add this one

also the AMD gaming evolved app (raptr) has a recording option, it's called game DVR. but it's really buggy and i don't want to record a 15min video just o find out it fucked up 😀

but is this something similar to nvidea's shadowplay?

So basically there was no difference.

As for Raptr DVR, it looks to me like a response to shadowplay which would be nice but in my testing the quality isnt great. Also keep in mind that it is in beta so it may improve in the future.
