What is the make and model number of your laptop? You can't go from Firewire to USB for video transfer or recording to the laptop. Two totally different interfaces and ways of communicating with the computer. If you laptop has a an available ExpressCard slot you can get an ExpressCard like any of the ones listed here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_16?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=laptop+firewire+card&sprefix=laptop+firewire+%2Celectronics%2C198

Of course you don't have to buy from Amazon, I was just using that as a reference point for what is available.
