Recording Issues on my PC

So I have been having recording issues as of lately with my PC. I have a 6600k, a GTX 1070, 32 GB of Ram, and good cooling. When I open up OBS to record my pc games, it gets extremely laggy. Even on a game like fortnite, which should be somewhat easy to record for my pc I think, it stutters like crazy and OBS tells me its overload.

Maybe I am wrong, but if I use the x264 (CPU) to encode and the graphics card to play the game, then why is there such an issue. BTW I am running max settings on Fortnite but I still feel like it should be good. Maybe the 6600k isn't as strong as I thought it was. Also what settings should I be using on OBS recording. Thanks!

Solution
Hm, there are a few things that could be the problem:

1. Make sure OBS is on the newest version.

2. I hope you use moderat settings for OBS not OVERKILL

3. Are your drivers all up to date?

4. I had some problems with OBS recordings/streaming because of Nvidia-Share. If you have GeforceExperience, disable the Share function, it helped me.

Solution
I’ve noticed that all my friends have issues with x264 encoding using any CPU with less than 8 threads. I would recommend using Nvidia NVENC encoder because usually your games use those 4 threads which is why the extra 4 threads i7 and newer i5s would have are better for recording.
