I have a HDD which appears to be faulty, I ran Easy Recovery Pro and did a
full diagnostic test which reported the following

EasyRecovery(TM) Professional - DriveTests

Copyright© 2002-2003 Ontrack Data Recovery Inc.

Report Created 4/20/2004 @ 10:48 AM

Test Selected: Full Diagnostic Test

Running Full Diagnostic Test.

Testing drive WDC AC28 400R.

I/O Error on sector 541083.

I/O Error on sector 588235.

I/O Error on sector 593627.

I/O Error on sector 736757.

I/O Error on sector 736758.

I/O Error on sector 737687.

I/O Error on sector 636973.

I/O Error on sector 683017.

I/O Error on sector 685693.

I/O Error on sector 780769.

I/O Error on sector 781586.

I/O Error on sector 789675.

I/O Error on sector 825839.

I/O Error on sector 873659.

I/O Error on sector 875797.

Then I have tried to transfer files from this hdd to another and a few would
transfer across and things appear to stop or slow down to the extent of
cancellation.

I have even tried to transfer the files in does to another hdd and also had
a few files transfer and it would prompt me to abort/retry/fail

Is there a way I can get some files of this drive without sending it in to a
hdd specialist for $100 per MB to recover??

Cheers

Clayton

There are two ways to do this:
- The easy way: Restore the files from backup.
- The hard way: Boot the machine with a Win98
boot disk from www.bootdisk.com, then run
ntfsdos.exe /L:EF
You can now copy individual files to floppy disk
or to a slave disk. You will only see short file
names. ntfsdos.exe comes from www.sysinternals.com.

Are you saying that this is a dual-boot system with Win98
operative? If so, just copy your files across!
