Hello, So this is this message I get when I try to run the RFG (Red Faction Guerrilla) Launcher:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Users\Jake...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please conctact the application's support team for more information.

I click ok then:

RFG Launcher

RFG Launcher has stopped working.

A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

I am running a Windows 8.1 computer and this problem has only arisen after the update from Windows 8. RAM and Graphics card are not the issue here.

I have tried reinstalling all version of MIcrosoft Visual C++. I have x64 and x86 versions of 2005, 2008 and 2012 installed.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game 5+ times.
I have completely deleted the files related to the game and redownloaded.
I have tried installing it in different locations.
I have tried running it on a different account.
I have restarted my computer numerous times.
I have done a clean start.
I have tried compatibility mode.
I used the repair option on installation.

Nothing I have done seems to fix this issue. If anyone has any insight please let me know.

Solution
it seems there is a compatibility issue between a win 8.1 update and GFWL. as the cracked version that bypasses GFWL works but no multiplayer so its not really a solution that would work for you.
as THQ are nolonger in business theres not gonna be a patch to fix this so finding the incompatable windows update and removing it is your only option.

open the disk and look in the redistributable folder. the required vc redist will be in there.
the reason i say look there is that theres about a dozen different redist versions. you may have some of em but they may bot be the required version.
you can also try installing a new version of GFWL.

I have a digital copy from gamefly, but I have gone into the folder and found the included Visual C++ and installed it. I unistalled and reinstalled the most recent version of Games for Windows Live.

Still same message.

Solution

I have numerous other GFWL games that work with Windows 8.1. It seems odd that that would be the issue. As far as I'm aware there is no way to rollback from 8.1 to 8.

Also I just spoke with my friend who has the game. He is playing it on Windows 8.1.

he may not have all the updates you have. like i said it seems to be a compatibility issue caused by a windows update. the posts i read elsewhere say the game worked fine on 8.1, they installed fresh updates and the game stopped working. i dont mean the service pack that updated to 8.1 i mean the hotfixes microsoft introduce between the service packs. i know 8.1 isnt officially banded as sp1 but you get my drift. just go into programs and features list the installed updates and see if you can remove them... then clean your registry and reboot.
then try your game.

So what I found out is:
1. Update your Visual C++ get 2005
2. There is a windows update KB2962409 that seems to be breaking the game also. To delete it, go to CONTROL PANEL -> PROGRAMS AND FEATURES -> VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES -> right click on "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2962409)" and Uninstall.
3. Restart
Should work.
