refreshed back to windows 8 from 8.1

I refreshed my laptop from windows 8.1 back to windows 8 due to a few problems with the update.

The windows.old file has appeared after I did this (I didn't look after updating to 8.1)

Is it safe to delete this file?

When you reinstall windows, it saves all of your personal data in the windows.old file. If you are compeletely done with it, here's how you delete it:

does the 'personal data' include things like word files and pics etc? Sorry to ask but I'm not all that technical when it comes to computers
