I am building a system for school and I would really like my monitor to double as my tv by using the all-in-wonder radeon but I have a few questions. First off I am not sure what size TV would be right for a dorm room, would 19" be large enough or do I need to go 21 or a little larger. Secondly a 19" monitor is in my price range but not a 21" or larger. So what would the quality be like if I hooked up a tv to the computer at 21 inches vs. a monitor at 19 inches? What solution do yall feel would be the best? Any opinions will help. Thanks

go with the monitor. im my dorm room my 19" is bigger then my roomies tv. Also with a Radeon AIW you can watch tv and other stuff on it. The tv only would be a pain to do stuff like typing or web surfing. I dont have a aiw, but i do have a dreamcast with a vga box. It will kick a tv's ass in picture quality. If you going to have one tube and only one tube make it a monitor.

The last time I tried to use my imagination, I ended up in a straight jacket! 😱

I would say go with a monitor! The resolution and refresh rate of televisions is horrible compared to a monitor!

i'd say go with a 19" tv. this is my second year dorming and i have a tv tuner. i usually find myself wanting a tv on and listening to something while doing reports or whatever. i also find times when i don't want to turn my computer on just to watch tv. but hey, you probably have different priorities. i'd choose the convenience of a separate tv. the quality appears worse on the monitor also because the monitor is way sharper compared to the tv signals you get anyway. maybe it's my tuner, maybe not.

If you only need TV and not all the crazy features of the AIW Radeon, Get a Geforce 2 GTS or Pro for around $160-it performs better, and a TV tuner card for around $50 (even with remote! See www.compgeeks.com in the video conferencing section). I am watching TV in a window right now. 19" is plenty large enough for a monitor to function as a TV.
