Hello! I 'm upgrading my CPU & Motherboard soon and will have to reinstall my windows 10. but i just realize it was upgraded back then in 2014 from my retail-bought Win 8.1

How do you go reinstalling the windows then? do i download windows 10 iso from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and reactivate it using this method https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change ?

or am i need to install it using my retail win 8.1 CD? \

i got a feeling it would be the former, but i would like to hear any opinions, thanks!

Solution
You do NOT need your old 8.1. That is dead and gone.

Since you are getting a new motherboard, that is basically a new "system".
Read here
For the OS activation, read and do this before you change any parts:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change

Once you have that linked to your MS account, build up the new system, and a clean install.
