Reinstalling WinXP on a I6000

I've recently received my I6000 and I noticed that Dell no longer ships out
the driver CD's with their systems which is a pain. I'm not interested in
all the software that they've installed on it and would like to do a fresh
install of XP. I would rather not uninstall everything separately, just a
preference. I read that if you want to restore the system as factory
default hit Ctrl F11 and it does the trick but of course installs all the
unwanted software as well. How do I install WinXP seeing that I don't have
a CD. As well, where can I find the appropriate drivers that I need. I
took a look a look at the Dell support site and some drivers are easily
found but others are a little more difficult in determining which ones I
need.

Is there a way to transfer the drivers on the system presently on to CD to
eliminate searching for them separately?

1stly if you havenot got a retail copy of XP or a Dell copy of the same then
you cant install xp only you will have to just reinstall the image on the
drive, (or you could try phoning Dell and asking for the disks as has been
mentioned countless times on this NG, as for the drivers if you put the tag
number of your machine into the dell website that will be a good place to
start as it will tell you your configuration, or you could use your invoice
from Dell, at the very least you will need, chipset drivers, graphics,
audio, gigabit nic,

There should be a directory called c:\Dell\Drives with all the drivers, but
I would go to support.dell.com and download the current drivers and burn a
CD with that. Did you get a Reinstallation Disk (in otherwords, did you get
the XP disk?) If not, there should be instructions on how to burn one, or
if you call Dell they will usually ship you one.

This was from a previous post a while back, as I encountered the same
problem with my new 9100. You must have a CD burner in your system to use
this tool. Also, there was no program or program shortcut in the start menu
as this procedure describes. IIRC, the application was present on my
system, but was located in one of the Dell folders on the system...had to do
some drilling down through the folders. Worked flawlessly. This burns a
copy of Windows XP ONLY and you're only permitted to create ONE copy...no
Dell apps and no drivers (other than those included with XP, which is pretty
extensive). You'll need to get the drivers from www.support.dell.com

Being of the paranoid type I requested the CDs from Dell support and got
them but they did charge me for them, which is fine as long as I have them.

the drivers for you machine as another post said are in a folder called
C:\drivers
these are the drivers for you machine. You can reinstall windows then use
these drivers
as updates. That is the way I did it on my 1100 and 600m.

Just use the utility that Dell includes to burn what they erroneously
refer to as a restore CD. This is actually a full XP install CD.

As for the drivers, download them before the install. That said, I just
did a reinstall for a friend on an Inspiron 600m using the CD I burned
from my 6000 (since it had SP2 already and the XP CD he had was only
SP1) and every driver was installed with XP.

Does anyone know what that file is called off hand? I searched for
something called IIRC but it turned up nothing. I did however find I file
that removes the Dell System Restore Partition.

Sadly not across the pond in Rip-Off Britain.

My 9300 has a DVD writer but, strangely, no option to create an OS CD and
phone calls/emails to Dell are refuted with the "sorry but we no longer ship
OS CDs".

Seeing as I was planning on repartitioning my hard drive, I simply used the
Win XP Pro CD I got with my Dimension about a year ago.

Piracy? Illegal? Probably, but seeing as I paid for something that I
didn't receive, what's Billy Gates gonna do about it?

Funny thing is, Microsoft wonder why there's so much piracy about!!

Actually, I think you're OK legally. You have a legitimate COA on the
machine. The media is immaterial.

Ah, alas, if Billy's henchmen come a-knocking, the 9300 only has a COA for
XP Home.

So someone would want their pound of flesh.

Could be worse though..........I could be a Brazilian on his way to work on
