I’ve been looking at the various motherboard options for a 754pin socket A64 and one of the main boards that has been recommended is the MSI Neo Platinum. From reading the Newegg reviews and looking at the MSI forum I have begun to have my doubts about this board. I get the impression that MSI tried to get their nForce 3 – 250GB board out before everyone else and as a result had early BIOS and quality control issues. My question is: is this board reliable? Have the problems been solved now?

Known problems:
Buzz on sound system when the mouse is moved.
Motherboards that don’t work, or have faulty sockets.

I dont thrust MSI or ASUS board anymore. Too much complain about them. They both looks like product rushed to the market. If you want a good board, you could try the Soltek k8an2e-gr. Neweeg has them. They got good review by users, which IMHO, are more true life than hardware review site. Mine is on its way,and based on my previous Soltek experience, this board should be great. My nf2 soltek served me well with speed and perfect stability for almost 2 years. Gigabyte boards too seem to have some problems.

Well, you're off on a couple of points. MSI was actually late in getting this board out by almost two months because of all the problems. The review boards went out in April and the stock finally hit the shelves in June. It seems you either get one that works perfectly or you get a living nightmare. No happy medium. Improper temps have shown up across the chipset line by a lot of manufacturers, but the Punkbuster on-line problem seems to only show up on the 250GB chipset. Seems to be an Nvidia problem with the on-chip firewall. If anything, MSI is guilty of trying to cram too many features onto their boards. Any little conflict becomes magnified many times over. Consequently, they have become the Beta Bios kings of the planet. It's not uncommon to see 10 Bios releases for one board in a year. JMHO

I know that, and this review gives this board good impressions. And my past experience with Soltek give me more confidence. I can wait to put my new system at work...
