HI, I'm planning on buying a sata ssd which i can plug into my laptop via a cable i own, I was wondering which ssd would be good to go with as i am slightly price limited and am concerned about long term reliability. I know that samsung NAND flash chips are very reliable, but the 860 drives are out of my budget. What are some good 240/500 GB options with good reliability? thanks.

I'm assuming you are talking about buying an internal SSD drive and using it externally. Remember that theoretical USB speeds are never realized (it's usually not even close).

Look at western digital and crucial. Here's a 240GB for $31.

The cheap ones aren't going to be super fast.

Thanks for the info - up until now i have been using an old WD scorpio black HDD, which has been enough speed for me due to my use being mainly archival, so i think these should do just fine. :)
