Hello,
A similar problem to some of the other issues on in this group.
Office Setup:
2 Windows 2000 servers up to date with service packs
1 Windows 2003 server up to date
SonicWall Firewall
Remote Setup:
Windows XP with SP2 and WindowsXP-KB884020-x86-enu.exe applied.
Actiontek DSL modem
Connection:
DSL
Problem:
Used to be able to establish a VPN connection, then Remote desktop to any of
the servers. Around the time XP SP2 was applied to remote computer Remote
desktop stopped connecting with "Connection to remote computer was broken..."
error.
Once the VPN is established I can Ping and Map drives to the servers.
Steps taken to resolve so far:
Rebooted remote machine
Rebooted firewall
Rebooted server providing RRAS service
Set firewall IP timeout from 5 mins to 50 mins (per MS tech support)
Removed SP2 from remote machine
Reinstalled SP2 in safe mode (per MS tech support) on remote machine
Applied WindowsXP-KB884020-x86-enu.exe to remote machine
Still does not connect.
Work arounds:
However, I can get a connection if I minimize the Remote desktop window
while it is trying to connect and start another Remote desktop connection.
This second one connects right away every time.
Also of note: If I use the proprietary Sonicwall VPN client to establish
the VPN connection instead of PPTP RRAS connection the Remote desktop
connects without any problems.
Remote Desktop works fine from within the Office LAN.
Given the above two workarounds I would like to get the Remote desktop
connection to work the first time over a VPN using PPTP RRAS like it used to.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
