remote to a W7 PC from a W8 laptop

Hi All,

i am trying to remote desktop from a windows 8 laptop to a windows 7 home premium pc.

windows 8 laptop is where i want to control. the windows 7 pc is what i want to control.

is this possible?

i am trying, each time it says, "make sure pc is on, or enable access"

i believe i have those checked off.

and we are all a part of the same network. so i can see each pc in the house.

You could use alternatives instead of regular remote desktop, such as Teamviewer

On your Windows 7 desktop - right-click My Computer, Properties, from there go to "Remote", and check the option to allow other computers. You should also give the user permission to use RDP.

On Windows 8 desktop - there should be Remote Desktop Client, from there configure it to access the other PC

i know w7 home premium cant connect to others, but i though w8 should connect to that..

i have remote assistance.. not remote desktop on my W7 home premium pc...

does that make a difference?

MMMM.... i dont like remote assistance... i think i figured it out... thank you everyone...

i think the answer is that windows 7 doesnt have remote desktop. so it would never work.


maybe i upgrade to windows 8.

Sorry, my fault - did not saw you mentioned "Home Premium"
Higher Windows 7 versions (Professional, Ultimate) do have Remote Desktop capability.
