OK, here it goes.
I have a little computer business on the side, dealing mostly with desktops,
both hardware and software.
A previous client asked me if I would look at 2 identical laptops he has.
One won't boot at all, no lights(except battery light) no beeps.
The other one boots to the point where it says"can not find the operating
system."
It will boot from a UBCD4Windows(look it up, handy tool.) But that can't
find the hard disk either.
My thoughts were to try to remove the hard drive from the one and put it in
the other and see if I can get one of them to work.
Someone else had already removed all the screws from the one that does not
work at all, so I attempted to finish the job of disassembly, but I can't
seem to get the 2 halves of the machine apart and I don't want to break it.
Is there a screw in the center or a catch of some kind that I have to
release to get the 2 halves apart.
It seems to be fastened at about the space bar, but I removed the key tops
and didn't see any screws under there.
Anmy help getting the hard drive out of this thing will be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks, Amir
PS: Sorry for the crosspost, a little desperate I guess.

There is a procedure to disassemble an HP Pavilion notebook computer at
http://www.cif.rochester.edu/~greg/hardware/hp_pavilion_n5430_disassembly.html.
I think it's pretty much the same for the all 5000 series notebooks. I
found it useful when I had to replace the hard drive in my 5270.

BTW, if all you need to do is replace the hard drive you can skip step 1
in that procedure (remove all visible screws). To get to the hard drive
you just need to remove the keyboard, which is steps 2 through 4.
